Youth coordinators from Maine Environmental Education Association and the Wabanaki Alliance are partnering during the upcoming legislative session to offer an exciting opportunity for Wabanaki youth, ages 16 to 22. We’re looking for Wabanaki youth passionate about sovereignty, education, and making change at the state and local levels!
Participants will have the chance to experience the state lawmaking process firsthand through the tracking of three priority bills related to Wabanaki sovereignty. Youth will receive mentorship from other Wabanaki citizens who are experts in the policy field, and meet regularly as a group to plan outreach and build materials and resources to further educate Maine youth on critical Wabanaki issues and the general lawmaking process.
Involved youth will dedicate 20-40 hours total to the initiative over the course of the legislative session (January-May) and will be compensated for their time.
No experience necessary! If interested, please apply by Oct. 15 via the button below. Contact kaya@meeassociation.org with any questions.
